OSH Training for committee members

This is mandatory training for members of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee. The training aims to familiarize members with their duties in ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of everyone in the workplace, as well as with the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and other relevant legislations.

  • Establish a safety and health committee at work places with 20 or more employees or if the Director orders such establishment.
  • Every member of the Committee to undertake basic training in occupational health and safety within six months of appointment or election.
  • The main goals are familiarization with their duties and the requirements of Occupational Safety & Health Act.

First Aid Training

This training is mandated by the Factories (First Aid) Rules, 1977, to be undertaken by everyone manning the first aid box at the workplace. The training involves learning about different health risks, incident management, casualty management, handling different medical conditions, dealing with poisons, burns, bites and stings, among others.

Individuals manning the first aid box must receive adequate training and hold a certificate of competence.

  • The training touches on topics such as Incident Management, Casualty Management, Coma Management, CPR, Disorders of Airway and Breathing, Disorders of Circulation, Dressings & Bandages, Wounds & bleeding, Disorders of Consciousness, Medical Conditions, Poisoning, Bites &stings, Burns & Scalds, Effects of heat & cold, Emergency childbirth, Musculoskeletal injuries, Lifting & carrying, Content of a First Aid Box, Evaluation, Assessment and Examination.

Basic Fire Safety Training

This is a training necessary per the Factories and Other Places of Work (Fire Risk Reduction) Rules, 2007. The training focuses on teaching employees about fire safety, firefighting appliances, and fire emergency management, among others.

  • Instruct workers on how to use firefighting appliances.
    • Training topics include: fire regulations, the nature of fire, fire hazards, classes of fire, fire extinction principles, fire extinguishing techniques, choosing appropriate extinguishers, Fire risk assessment, fire prevention, fire emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures, practical firefighting techniques, and managing fire emergencies.
